Dear friends,
Welcome
to the website of the Jewish
Congregation of Mulhouse.
Our
new Administrative Commission
has decided to develop this new media to enable all our members, and
especially
the ones, remotely located, but however faithful to our institution, to
keep
easily in contact with us.
This
website aims also to promote
Mulhousian Judaism, through its history and in its continuous living
development, close to all of those who wish to learn, follow or simply
live,
our so peculiar Jewish life in our beloved city, but also in the whole
wide world.
What a pride and a joy to regularly monitor new connexions to our
website from
all around the world!
The
Jewish Congregation of Mulhouse
is nowadays the second Jewish Community in Alsace in size, behind the large
Jewish
Community of Strasbourg. As an historical community, firstly formed of
people
coming from the Rhineland, the Jewish Congregation of
Mulhouse has become a melting pot, improved
by the entry of Polish Jews and later by Sephardim. Today,
we have to reach a new milestone and
need to insufflate some new dynamism in our community, to "be born
again”,
as would say the slogan of our City: “ la Renaissance de
Mulhouse”. This will
allow all its members, and in particular its children, to learn, live
and
transmit a rich and tolerant Judaism, facing its future and respecting
our
ancestral Laws.
Under the
supervision of our two
rabbis, Rav Elie Hayoun and Rav Mardochée Amar, helped by
our talented ‘Hazan
Mr Jacky Hermann (you have been able to hear its fantastic voice in the
home
page of our web site), we are promoting these values on
daily services specific to both Ashkenazi and
Sephardic rites on Sabbath and Holy Days.
Our
Talmud Torah offers classes for
our young members on Wednesdays and Sundays. We are also proposing some
adult
courses from time to time. Various other cultural and recreational
activities are
organized throughout the year (thematic events, conferences,
debates…). Most of
them are orchestrated by “satellite“ groups of our
Congregation, like B’nai B’rith,
WIZO (Women International Zionist Organization), ABRI (charity
organization),
AUJF (French Jewish Unified Social Fund ), AMIF (French Jewish Doctors
Organization), but also by some associations building some bridges
between
cultures and religions, like the Jewish-Christian friendship group and
“Bible
et Culture”.
For
obvious security reasons, some
sections of this website have a restricted access. Only members of
Mulhouse
Jewish Community can access these pages. In case you wish to subscribe
and
become a member, please contact us by e-mail or call our secretary.
In
addition, we kindly encourage you
to print and fill it our donation form. Your financial support is vital
for us,
and we look forward hearing from you in a very near future. You would
be so
kind to support the development of our Jewish life in Mulhouse.
Patrick
HIRSCHHORN
President of the Jewish Congregation of Mulhouse
